We can help you with your managed migration
Managed migration is a UK government process that involves moving people from older benefits, known as legacy benefits, to Universal Credit (UC). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will send a migration notice to claimants to move over by a specified deadline. Legacy benefits include Housing Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance and Tax Credits.
If you’re a claimant and you do not apply by their final deadline day, which is one month after the deadline day, you may see your financial support reduce or lose it completely.
Do you have any concerns about the managed migration process? If you're experiencing any of the following issues, our dedicated welfare advisors are here to support you.
- Are you worried about rent being paid directly to you?
- Struggling with monthly payments?
- Unsure how work will affect your UC payments?
- Feeling worse off on UC than on your old benefits?
- Missed your deadline day?
- Not sure if Housing Benefit will continue to pay the rent?
- Are you not receiving Transitional Protection or getting the wrong amount?
- Are you worried about having to go to the Job Centre

Good news stories
We’re happy to share three real life stories of our residents, showcasing how Jane and Evelyn provided essential support during challenging times.
Mo’s story
Mo received Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and Housing Benefit. After receiving his migration notice, he made a timely Universal Credit (UC) claim. Still, he was unable to prove his identity at the Job Centre.
He wasn’t a British citizen and missed his Habitual Residency Test (HRT) deadline at the job centre. His benefits were stopped, and he reached out to ccha for assistance.
We showed that Mo’s Indefinite Leave to Remain meant the HRT was unnecessary. Our Welfare Team successfully confirmed that his UC claim was accepted as having been made on time. As such, he was awarded Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) and Transitional Protection.
Without our intervention, Mo would have had a three-month gap with no benefits at all and then a monthly income of £414. With our support, Mo’s corrected monthly UC payment increased to £1,060 and was backdated in full.
Felicity’s story
Felicity was denied a PIP in 2022, which affected her Income Support entitlement. Our welfare advice team represented her case at the tribunal, and she won her appeal in August 2025.
This meant she should have received a higher rate of Income Support and been eligible for Transitional Protection when migrating to UC in January 2025. Our Welfare Team supported Felicity in contacting Income Support and requesting that the missing premiums be paid to her, backdated to 2022.
All payments were backdated, resulting in thousands of pounds paid to Felicity in arrears.
Felix’s story
Felix struggles with digital technology and has difficulty reading and writing. He has a severe mental illness and is often unable to communicate effectively or leave the house. Although he received a Migration Notice, he did not make a claim.
Felix missed his final UC deadline, and his ESA and Housing Benefit were stopped.
Our welfare advice team demonstrated that the DWP had not provided adequate support during the migration process and should have done more to reach out to this resident and offer support. The DWP accepted our case, and Felix’s UC claim was backdated to the original deadline.
Felix was awarded Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity and Transitional Protection.
